Tips on Conquering a Wedding Cake
A wedding cake is much more than just a cake; it is the striking centerpiece of your wedding reception, and it highlights the wedding itself. This lovely confection, known as a wedding cake, is the symbol of love’s promise, and it should be adorned with all the signs of love; such as hearts, flowers, lace, curves and ruffles of icing, and trimmed in delicate lace.
You need to devote your time and thoughts into making a wedding cake, with devotion to making sure this cake is a once-in-a-lifetime creation. Years after the last morsel is eaten you will cherish the memory of its beauty.
Planning your cake:
Do some research; buy some magazines or look on-line to see if there is a design that catches your eye. Remember, it can always be modified to create a unique cake for the bride and groom. You can also consult with your decorator, baker or caterer for more ideas. Or you can always design your own wedding cake!
First, you will need to determine how many servings you will need for the guests at your wedding reception. Since it is tradition for the bride to freeze the top tier, so it can be served on the first wedding anniversary, you do not count that tier when figuring out how many servings you will need for the final count. There are charts available which give you the number of servings per cake, depending on the size. If a design is appealing to you, but the number of servings it provides is too few or too great, consult with your baker to see if he/she can adjust it to fit your desires.

Choose a color scheme:
Many of today’s brides prefer a cake in airy pastels that echo the colors of the bridesmaids’ gowns, while others choose classic white or off white, untouched by any tint, or possibly set off with colorful flowers. Some decide on the rich color and flavor of chocolate, carrot cake, or other.
Decide on a trim. Piped or gum paste flowers that mimic the ones you will carry are sometimes a good idea and look very nice, as well as accenting the reception. Icing lace or perhaps copying the design on the bridal gown (if possible) also adds a delicate touch.
The cake-top ornament is very important, too. It can be trimmed with the flowers used on the cake for a custom look. You may even have a unique handmade ornament or an entire miniature wedding party!
